An estimated 110, 470 Texans are diagnosed with cancer each year and 37,984 will not survive.
Nolan County is joining over 5,200 other communities worldwide to host the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, an event to celebrate cancer survivors and remember those who are no longer with us.
Relay For Life raises funds to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back.
Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham has declared that April 29, 2013 through May 4, 2013 will be The American Cancer Society's Paint the Town Purple Week. In doing so, citizens are urged to celebrate cancer survivorship, remember loved ones lost to the disease, honor caregivers and join Nolan County's fight against cancer.
This year's Nolan County Relay For Life event will take place on Oct. 12, 2013, from 11 a.m. to midnight. The kick-off will be May 4, 2013, beginning at 9 a.m. at the local softball fields for a co-ed softball tournament.
