Phil Montoya, 57, was killed in a car accident in Utah on Saturday, April 21, 2012. He was a man of many interests and much intelligence, but more than anything, Phil was known as a friend. He grew up in Utah and settled in Texas after hitchhiking through most of the Western United States. He married and had two daughters, Traci and Lauren.
Phil owned two successful tax offices and enjoyed making a living in a practical way that helped people. Friends remember Phil as a generous man. He wanted to make sure people had what they needed. He enjoyed bartering and trading as a way of interacting with people. As a result, he maintained friendships all across the United States and seemed to know someone everywhere he went. He visited all but two of the continental United States. Most people who knew him for any length of time knew about his love of the Beatles, their memorabilia and made it a point to lavish Beatles gifts on him.
He met and married his wife, Angela, in 2010. They enjoyed traveling together. Their relationship was filled with adventure, business and making friends across the country.
Phil is survived by his wife, Angela and her daughter, Kayleigh; daughters, Traci and Lauren; five brothers and sisters in Utah. He also leaves behind several nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends who played very important roles in his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and three siblings.
There will be a family visitation on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the West High Alumni Association.
