Playoffs at Bowl will start today

November 21, 2013

Mustang Bowl is hosting a pair of playoff games this week, starting today with a Class 1A, Division I area matchup between Wind-thorst and Sundown that will kick off at 6:30 p.m.
The second playoff game is a Class 2A, Division I area game between Denver City and Bangs at 7:30 p.m. Fri-day.
Bangs (8-3) is coming to Mustang Bowl for the sec-ond straight year. In 2012, the Dragons played here in the area round against Idalou and won, 23-6, to advance to regionals before losing to Eastland.
Denver City (11-0) is en-joying its best season in years, though it did make the playoffs last year when the Mustangs were 6-5 and lost in bi-district. Denver City was briefly in the same 3A district with Sweetwater before dropping to 2A several years ago.
If Bangs wins, it may get a rematch with Eastland — which will face Littlefield in an area playoff today in Snyder — in the regional semifinals next week.
Sundown brings a 7-3 record into today’s Class 1A, Division I playoffs vs. Wind-thorst, which is 6-5. The winner will advance to play in the regional semifinals next week against either Stamford or Panhandle, who will meet at 5 p.m. Friday in Post.
