Plowboys denied playoff berth
The Roscoe boys basketball team needed a road win in Friday’s season-ending game to claim the final playoff spot from District 9-A, Division I.But Munday had other ideas as the Moguls won, 68-42, to claim the third-place berth in the district. Both teams came into the contest with identical 5-4 records in district play and Roscoe had won the teams’ earlier contest, 54-46, in late January. But the rematch was a different story. Munday led just 14-11 at the end of one quarter, but outscored Roscoe 41-18 over the next two periods to put the game away. Stamford (10-0), the district champion, and Haskell (7-3) will join Munday in the playoffs that begin next week.Roscoe, which finishes 13-12 overall, was led by Caden Smith’s 13 points. Cody Graham had nine, Devan Cole seven, Edgar Gallegos six, Juan Solis five and Keeston Ford two. Roscoe’s JV boys also lost their finale to Munday’s JV, 53-31. Luke Rovig had 13 points, Emilio Morals eight, Dillon Freeman and Kane Peavy four and Brant Burnett two.In District 12-A, Division II, Black-well’s boys lost Friday to Veribest 45-37. Both teams are 3-10 in district. Blackwell, which is 10-18 overall, got 13 points from Brandon Elliott while Caleb Magness had 12. Blackwell and Highland end the regular season Tuesday, with Blackwell at Bronte and Highland at Roby. Highland must win to keep its playoff hopes alive.
