Plowboys, Hornets lose

MERKEL — Roscoe (0-4) faced another tough non-district opponent on the road as Merkel (2-1) jumped out to a 26-0 lead after one quarter. The Badgers then added two more scores, while Roscoe had just 131 yards — all rushing. Eduardo Gallegos ran for 40 yards to pace the Plowboys, while Eric Padilla had 36, Chris Deleon 32 and Dillon Freeman 22. Roscoe was shut out for the first time this season.
Merkel finished with 252 yards rushing, with nine different players getting carries. Ace running back Frankie Harris led the way with 86 yards on just three attempts. Meanwhile, Ros-coe will host Munday this Friday to end non-district play. It will be the Plowboys’ first home game of 2011.

GARDEN CITY — High-land (1-3) forced Fort Davis to play almost four full quarters in its game despite a “mercy” loss by the 45-point rule used in six-man football, as Fort Davis (3-0) closed things out with just 1:54 left on a 6-yard run. The Indians led all the way, but Highland was within striking distance until the second half. Tyler Falcon ran for 59 yards and two TDs while Ron Covington threw for 103 yards and two TDs, ran for 32 yards and returned a kickoff 81 yards for a score. Steven Tester caught four passes for 55 yards and was on the recei-ving end of both of Coving-ton’s scoring throws, while Shelby Howard caught four for 36 yards. The top defenders for Highland — which goes to Blackwell this Friday for their annual six-man battle of the Hornets — were Falcon with nine tackles and five assists, Peyton Howard with eight tackles and three assists, and Cov-ington and Tester with six tackles and two assists.

ROBERT LEE — Blackwell traveled to Robert Lee (3-1) and found itself trailing 32-0 after one quarter as the Steers rolled to a victory over the Hornets (0-4). Blackwell also trailed 46-8 at halftime. Kaleb Edwards ran for 89 yards to pace the Hornets, while Jayden Jones threw a TD pass to Mark Monroe. Jones and Ethan Andrews threw for 44 yards, and Monroe had three catches for 33 yards while Jones caught two for 18 yards. Jones also had 14 tackles and three assists; Edwards had 13 tackles an eight assists; Andrews had 10 tackles and one assist; Mason Magness had nine tackles and four assists; and Ted Chambliss had nine tackles and three assists.
