MILES â Roscoe failed to dent the scoreboard Friday night at Miles in its final non-district game, just one week after the Plowboys scored 45 points in an im-pressive home win. The result was a 19-0 loss that dropped Roscoe to 1-2 this season.
Miles (1-2), coming off a 44-12 loss to Quanah at Sweetwaterâs Sammy Baugh Classic, held the Plowboys to 242 yards while scoring in each of the first three quarters as the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season.
Roscoe finished the night with 121 yards rushing and the same number (121) in the air, but was shut out for the first time this year. The Plowboys had 12 first downs to Milesâ 11, but the Bulldogs outgained Roscoe 330-242 and also came up with the gameâs only turnover. Miles quarterback Shelton Hohensee threw for all three Bulldog scores.
Vincent Pantoja had 66 yards on 11 carries to pace Roscoe, while Cutter Davila had 38 yards rushing and aloso threw for 67 yards. Rafael Aguayo ran for 25 yards and threw for 54 for the Plowboys, who have an open date this week before starting district vs. Baird on Sept. 27. Shelton Toliver led Roscoeâs receivers as he had five catches for 64 yards, while Kevin Lavalais had four catches, Aguayo two and Dillon Freeman one.
In sub-varsity action on Thursday, the JV Plowboys lost 34-6 to Haskellâs junior varsity in Roscoe.
Brayden Beal scored on a 7-yard run for Roscoe, which fell to 2-1 but trailed Haskell by just eight points, 14-6, at halftime.
In addition, Beal had an interception on defense while Juan Sanchez recovered a fumble for the Plow-boys.
âOur effort was there, but we made too many mistakes to win,â said Roscoe coach Jordan Morales. âWe need to continue to work hard to improve and clean up those mistakes.â
