The Roscoe girls basket-ball team defeated Stamford, 33-31, in its regular season finale on Tuesday. But the Plowgirls (5-5, 16-14) didnâ€™t get the help they needed to have a shot at the third and final playoff spot in District 9-A, Division I.
Haskell (6-4) claimed the No. 3 berth Tuesday by beating Rotan. Hamlin (9-1) and Munday (8-2) took the top two spots in the district.
Roscoe led at the end of each quarter Tuesday, but barely survived Stamfordâ€™s second-half rally. The Plow-girls led 8-5 after one quar-ter and 17-10 at halftime, but their lead shrank to two (24-22) after three periods.
Roscoeâ€™s effort was led by Lynnsi Moses, who scored 13 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds, and Faith Boren, who had 10 points and six rebounds. Also scoring for Roscoe were Carolina Perez with seven points plus a team-high 12 rebounds, and Jacinda Morales, who had three points.
Roscoe was unable to complete the doubleheader sweep as Stamford won the boys game, 67-22, to imp-rove to 8-1 in district play and stay in a tie for first place with Munday. Haskell (5-4) is in third place with one game left to play.
Roscoe (1-8) trailed 15-4, 38-11 and 54-20 at the per-iod breaks against Stam-ford. Jesus Leanos led the Plowboys with 10 points, while Luke Rovig had five, Keeston Ford four and John Hermosillio three.
Roscoeâ€™s boys end their season Friday by hosting Munday. Blackwellâ€™s teams played Tuesday at Sterling City, but the results were not available at press time.
