Plowgirls, Lady Hornets get Ws

The Roscoe and Highland girls were winners in area basketball action Saturday.
Roscoe improved to 2-0 with a narrow 28-26 win at Coahoma, while Highland squared its record at 1-1 as the Lady Hornets beat Eula 41-25.
Both of Roscoe’s wins have been by just two points. The leading scorers against Coahoma were Faith Boren with six points and Mirian Solis with five. Roscoe put together a second-half rally after being held scoreless in the second quarter and trailing 14-11 at halftime.
Roscoe also won the JV girls game, 30-23. Samantha Ortega scored 17 points and Olivia Rovig eight to pace the win.
Highland had lost to Class 3A Sweetwater 42-37 in its opener despite a nine-point second half lead, scoring just two points in the fourth quarter, and started out slow vs. Eula before taking control with an 18-4 second quarter to lead 23-12 at the intermission. Highland was ahead by 14, 31-17, after three periods. Sierra Allen (16 points) and Hannah Allen (10) paced the win. Highland’s JV girls (0-2) lost their game, 23-13, with Eula as Sabrina Romero had five points and Bailey Garrett four for Highland.
Highland’s JV also lost their season opener to the Sweetwater JV girls, 49-12, this past Tuesday. No individual totals for Sweetwater were reported.
Abby Garcia and Morgan Rudel scored 14 points to pace a 36-21 win for the Sweetwater freshman girls over San Angelo Lake View last Friday. No report was given for the JV girls game.
