October 27, 2012

On Tuesday evening, Oct. 23, 2012, around 7:30 p.m. a chase ensued when the Sweetwater Police Department attempted to stop a truck after the driver failed to yield at a yield sign, according to Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda. The driver began to travel west on an Interstate 20 access road and got onto the Interstate. The driver then attempted to exit on Blackland Road at a high rate of speed and went airborne through the median, rolling and flipping the vehicle several times before it came to a rest on the west bound access road. Officers secured him in the vehicle until Sweetwater EMS arrived at the scene. The driver was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. He was being combative at the hospital, but once restrained was flown to Abilene due to his injuries. The driver had a blue warrant for his arrest from the state from a violation of probation, as well as other outstanding warrants.
