Preliminary autopsy results revealed on body found at park

Following an autopsy in Lubbock, the preliminary autopsy results for the body found at Newman Park on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, were revealed by Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda.

According to Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda, the preliminary autopsy results for the body found at Newman Park on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, were revealed. The body was sent to Lubbock for an autopsy. The results of the autopsy indicated that the man found, Robert Owen Geiger, 67, of Sweetwater, died of self inflicted injuries made by three gunshots by a small caliber gun.
On Friday, midmorning, the Sweetwater Police Department received a call about an individual laying near the tank at Newman Park in Sweetwater with gunshot injuries.
Chief Frieda stated that the results are only preliminary, but there were no other details in the case that lead those conducting the investigation to believe that Geiger died of anything else.
Funeral services for Geiger will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Colorado City Cemetery, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Details on the body of a male found along Interstate 20 in July 2012 are still being processed. According to Chief Frieda, the process to identify the man could take about two to three months.
