State roads are not funded by property tax. Yes the tax rates are low compaired to other places in the state but that does not change the fact that the appraisal values are way off base and way too high.

The appraisal district is just a bunch of crooks. I have an old uninhabitated house with no heat source that is valued @ $60,000. It is not even in liveable condition. My daughter has a trailer house that has tripled in value. Everybody knows that a trailer house depreciates in value every year....except the appraisal district. It does no good to try to talk to them. They are just rude and treat people like they are idiots.

How do we the public expect to pay the bills for all the srvices we expect such as fire department, schools; road repairs; even the state highways like kwy 70, I - 20 all the other roads, not to mention the city streets, county roads & so on.
I have been in this fone city for almost 40 years: the taxes we pay are low compared to many other places. If we want to live here with dirt streets unrepaired hwys & so on we can keep the bills low, If we want the service & some quality either we pay for it or we can leave.
NOTHING in life is free.

Suprised?

How in the devil would anyone at that office be suprised? If the Appaisal district cut me a check for what they appaised my house for I would sell it to them in a heartbeat with its cracked slab from the dry weather, its plumbing problems, its outdated electrical system, its cracked sheet rock, and its bricking that is pulling away from the walls. 2 years in a row it went up several thousand dollars. This is Nolan County Texas not Austin Texas. At least the folks setting the effective tax rates have not lost their minds yet, just the appraisal district.
