Range recovery program set for May 8 in Sweetwater

April 28, 2012

SWEETWATER – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a rangeland recovery program from 6-8:30 p.m. May 8 in the Nolan County Courthouse’s third floor meeting room.
“As might well be imagined following last year’s drought, a lot of AgriLife Extension’s educational efforts are now being centered around recovering from that historic event,” said Zachary Wilcox, AgriLife Extension in Nolan County. “Ours will focus on our immediate area, but the messages shared will be applicable to most of West Texas. Unfortunately, even though we are trying to recover with the current heat and lack of rain the last few days, we’re liable to be right back where we were if we are not careful.”
Topics and their presenters will be:
• Grass Recovery Following Drought, Fire and Adverse Conditions, Natural and Artificial Reseeding of Pasture and Toxic Plant Management, all by Dr. Alyson McDonald, AgriLife Extension range specialist at Fort Stockton.
• Managing Weed Competition to Maximize Forage Growth, Gerald Hobson, DuPont Crop Protection range and pasture specialist, Weatherford.
• Seasonal Weather Outlook-Patterns and Predictions, Mark Rowlett, chief meteorologist, KTXS-TV, Abilene.
For more information and to RSVP by May 7, call 325-236-6912.
Registration is $10 payable at the door.
