Rangers stay alive; 3 other teams ousted

The Major League (11-12) Rangers were the only local team to avoid elimination Monday in District 5 Little League tournament action,
The Rangers were a 10-9 winner over Wylie’s Astros in their game at Wylie. The victory means Sweetwater will advance to face Clyde’s Horned Frogs beginning at 8 p.m. today at Abilene’s Cal Young Park, with the winner playing in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the same location.
If the Rangers win their next two games, they will play for the Major League title at 7 p.m. Thursday, with the title game also at Cal Young Park.
The Major League Astros, Minor League Astros and Junior League D’Backs lost Monday in their District 5 games. The Major League Astros were defeated, 9-5, by the Eastern Nationals at Cal Young Park while the Minor League Astros lost 12-2 to the Clyde Giants at Jim Ned. The D’Backs lost to Snyder’s Yankees 13-7 at Abilene North. Sweetwater’s Senior League team plays its opener at 6 p.m. today at Abilene North, where it will take on the Abilene North No. 2 team. A win means Sweetwater will play again at 7 p.m. Wednesday where it will face the Abilene South No. 1 team.
