Regional girls powerlifters compete Saturday

These nine Sweetwater High School girls powerlifters will go to Fort Stockton to compete in the Region I meet on Saturday.
From left are, kneeling, Nay Gonzales (220-pound class), Mikki Reschman (148-pound class), Valeria Zavaleta (123-pound class), Alexis Thompson (114-pound class), Kristi Ward (165-pound class); standing, Ziggy Collins (198-pound class), Ashley Lara (198-pound class), Dana Hohn (165-pound class) and Ezzy Mermella (181-pound class).
All nine are among the top five in their region. Reschman and Hohn rank first, Thompson second, Lara third, Gonzales, Ward and Mermella fourth and Collins and Zavaleta fifth entering the meet.
The top two lifters at regionals in each class will advance to the state meet set for March 16 in Corpus Christi. Three of Sweetwater’s lifters — Zavaleta, Hohn and Thompson — also competed at last year’s regional meet that was held in Monahans.
