Reid recognized as Best Newspaper Carrier

Christian Reid

It takes a team effort get the daily newspaper constructed, published and delivered. And the youngest member of the Sweetwater Reporter family is ten-year-old Christian Reid.
Reid is a newspaper carrier whose route is on the northeast side of Sweetwater. The route is under his mother's name, Jennifer Gardner, who was recently named the Sweetwater Reporter's "Readers' Choice" winner for Best Newspaper Carrier.
The incoming fifth-grader at Sweetwater Intermediate School loves to read, play video games and plays the right field position in baseball. Reid has three older sisters, and he will turn 11 in October.
Although Reid's route is under his mother's name, it wound up in his hands a few years ago when former newspaper carrier Tyler Lotzenhiser gave the route to Gardner's oldest daughter in order to raise money for her Washington, DC trip. When her fundraising efforts were finished, Reid took over the route and has enjoyed it ever since.
Gardner calls her son a fast carrier and noted that he enjoys visiting with the clients on his route, who are quick to call Gardner if they don't see Reid. Several of the clients also have pets and enjoy Reid's company so much that they have extended invitations to him to spend time with their four-legged friends.
Reid's job has become a family affair of sorts over the last three years, as his grandmother makes sure that everything is ready for his deliveries and his mother and siblings will assist as needed. Recently, Reid began delivering a second route and is getting accustomed to his added work.
