RELIGION: Trinity celebrates open house for new family life center
BROADWAY BAPTIST CHURCHOne of the greatest privileges we enjoy as American citizens is the opportunity to vote for our public officials. Estimates are that some 17 million of those who consider themselves “evangelical” in their faith failed to vote in the 2008 presidential election. My friend, we have a sacred trust in the vote we cast that impacts the highest office in our land. Evangelicals are described as a “protestant Christian movement that takes the Bible seriously and believes in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.” If that is true, then we have an obligation to vote according to the scripture. As the Election Day draws near it is my prayer that each of us will study God’s Word, seek God’s will, and vote on what is right accordingly.Dates for early voting are Monday, Oct. 22 through Friday Nov. 2. I trust that you will take advantage of this opportunity and vote. Our church is offering an alternative to taking your kids out Trick-or-Treating. This alternative is Treatsville. Foul, it is entitled: “If the Savior Stood Beside Me”If the Savior stood beside me, would I do the things I do? Would I think of His commandments and try harder to be true?Would I follow His example? Would I live more righteously, if I could see the Savior standing nigh, watching over me?If the Savior stood beside me, would I say the things I say? Would my words be true and kind if He were never far away?Would I try to share His gospel? Would I speak more reverently, if I could see the Savior standing nigh watching over me?He is always near me though I do not see Him there, and because He loves me dearly I am in His watchful care.So I'll be the kind of person that I know I'd like to be, if I could see the Savior standing nigh, watching over me.And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
