Resident begins group to clean up Lake Sweetwater

July 23, 2014

Shown is Clean Up Lake Sweetwater volunteer Shane Henry helping to clear brush at Lake Sweetwater for an event set to benefit two local families this weekend. Proceeds from Jam at the Dam will benefit the families of Devin Larue and Cassidy Crain, two local men who lost their lives in a vehicle accident in May.

A benefit concert is set for this Saturday, July 26, from noon to 11:30 p.m. at the Lake Sweetwater Amphitheater for the families of Cassidy Crain and Devin Larue.
Brisket sandwiches, hotdogs and drinks will be sold at the concert and all proceeds will go to the Crain and Larue families. 50/50 tickets will also be sold and donations will be taken throughout the night.
Musical talents for the event will be Angelique and The Sweet City Band, Doug Bailey Band, Joah "Beaver" Henry, Colton Brown, Brandon Bohall Band, Nine Mile Band, Santa Fe and Shane Henry & 4X Band.
Cooking the hotdogs for the night is Donald Hunt. Briskets will be cooked by Jimmy and Delaine Bailey, Larry and Dana Reed and Gary Watson.
For the concert, and as part of the Clean Up Lake Sweetwater project, Ricky Painter, Shane Henry, Bo Vandiver, Bryan Owens and several other community members have been working tirelessly to clean up the amphitheater in time for this event. Painter, who is president of and began the Lake Sweetwater clean up board, recently spoke at a Sweetwater City Commission meeting, outlining the project and asking for help from the city and the community. Future plans to beautify Lake Sweetwater include a new boat ramp at the beach area, new playground equipment and new restrooms.
Those working on the project would also like to make the public aware of illegal dumping that is plaguing the area. If you witness illegal dumping on county roads, city parks or at Lake Sweetwater, please report it to the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office.
Be sure to head out to the Lake Sweetwater Amphitheater this Saturday. Bring a lawn chair and your cooler, kick back and enjoy the free live entertainment.
