Funeral services for Rev. William Walter Mayo, 83, of Sweetwater will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Evangelical Methodist Church. Rev. Ronnie Newton will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Evangelical Methodist Church.
Mayo died Monday, March 24, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Abernathy. He married Joyce Vesta Amerson on Aug. 25, 1951, in Lakeview.
Brother Mayo was a member of Evangelical Methodist Church in Sweetwater where he was pastor from 1984 to 2002. He was a missionary from 1964 to 1972 in Burundi, Africa. He then became Regional Director of the World Gospel Mission and was a Missionary Evangelist before coming to Sweetwater in 1984. He was a minister for over 60 years.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Mayo of Sweetwater; son, Jonathan Mayo and wife Lisa of Uganda, Africa; daughters, Becky Smallwood-White and husband Eddie of Glen Rose, Lydia Allshouse and husband Bill of Irapuato, Mexico and Debbie Hawk and husband David of Tegucigalpa, Honduras; brother, Clifford Mayo of Lubbock; and sister, Jane Mayo and husband John of Channing, Texas; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Hawk, Bill Allshouse and Jared Smallwood.
