Road construction begins next week

Texas Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing project starting the week of July 18

A contractor for the Texas Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing 6.4 miles of SH 70 in Nolan County south of Sweetwater the week of July 18.
The project should be completed by mid-fall, weather permitting, said Mary Beth Kilgore, Abilene District public information officer.
This project will resurface and improve the portion of SH 70 from I-20 to almost two miles south of FM 1809. Motorists are urged to drive with caution and should be prepared for frequent changes in the routing around the construction zone, including at night.
The project was awarded to Stephens-Martin Paving LP of Abilene for $1.2 million in state and federal funding.
TxDOT’s engineer overseeing the project is Alan Hufstutler, P.E., Abilene Area engineer. His construction manager is Russell Chapman, and Jesse Martinez will serve as the project’s chief inspector.
Also beginning on Monday, July 18, 2011, the City of Sweetwater will begin their 2011 seal coat pavement maintenance construction. The following are planned streets to perform seal coat pavement maintenance: Mohawk, from Broadway to Bristol; Tonkawa, from Bristol to Broadway; Hiawatha, from Lakeview to Bristol; 12th, from Hoyt to Wardale; Silas, from Hailey to Brand; Josephine, from Brand to Hailey; 3rd, from Hailey to Bawcom; Jerry Huffman, from 1st to Broadway; 4th, from Pine to Elm; 5th, from Crane to Pine; 10th, from Crane to Elm; Ash, from Broadway to 3rd; 4th, from Walnut to Cypress; 9th, from Cypress to Walnut; 8th, from Lemon to Mulberry; 4th, from Grape to Hickory; Mulberry, from Broadway to 4th; Mulberry, from 1st to Broadway; Avenue B, from Neff to Newman; Newman, from Alabama to Avenue B; Seaton, from Avenue B to dead end; Canfil, from Beryle to Hill; Alexander, from Neff to Bluff; Alexander, from Hill to Lamar; Oklahoma, from Neff to Colquit; New Mexico, from Neff to Mustang; Texas, from Lubbock to Neff; Mustang, from Newman to New Mexico; Bowie, from Avenue A to Avenue D; Avenue C, from Lamar to Bowie; Avenue F, from Lamar to Bowie; Avenue B, from Mitchell to Mulberry; Haskell, from Avenue A to Alamo; Haskell, from Alabama to Alamo; Coke, from Alabama to Arizona; Texas, from Lamar to Sam Houston; Bowie, from Arkansas to Oklahoma; Moody, from Arkansas to Oklahoma; Florida, in front of Big Boy’s Barbecue; 12th, from Crane to Ragland; and 12th, from Ragland to Hailey.
