Robert Allin Harrison

February 20, 2012

Robert Allin Harrison, 79, of Sweetwater and Houston, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012. With his passing, we lost a man of honor and compassion for all; a stalwart supporter of the values derived from team sports and athleticism, and a loving father.
Robert grew up in Houston, graduating from Lamar High School and Rice University, where he was a member of the 1953 Cotton Bowl championship team. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant following graduation, retiring after twenty-plus years as a Lt. Colonel. Robert went on to a successful career as an independent insurance agent in Houston until first retiring to Wimberley, Texas, before moving to San Angelo and, for the past three years, Sweetwater. His passion in life was mentoring young men as a volunteer football coach.
Robert is survived by his five children, Robert S. (Devon) of Richmond, TX, Tracey Johnson (Doug) of Colorado Springs, CO, Heather Klausmeyer (Greg) of Houston, TX, Marina Nemir of Sweetwater, TX and Barry (Missy) of Temecula, CA; 14 grandchildren, including Sam, Nick and Max Nemir of Sweetwater; as well as his sister, Priscilla Clardy (Will) Seattle Washington; brother Dittman (Cherry) Alleyton, TX; and many loving friends and family members.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater, Texas from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will take place later in the week in Columbus, Texas under the direction of Heneke Funeral Home with military graveside honors.
