Roberto Martinez, age 58, of Lubbock, Texas, (former resident of Sweetwater) passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
His body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Pedro P. Lopez, Denny Cardova and Pat Martinez officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Roberto was born Dec. 6, 1952, in Sweetwater, Texas. He was a member of the Jehovah Witness Church and a member of the Sweetwater Jaycees for many years. He attended Sweetwater High School. He was an Emergency Medical Technician in Brownwood and Rockwall. He also worked as a dispatcher for the sheriff’s department in Rockwall County. He loved his family and friends very much and they loved him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Melody Martinez of Lubbock; one son, Cortney Martinez and wife Imelda of Roscoe; two daughters, Stacey Martinez of Lubbock and Jennifer Bolton of Lubbock; five grandchildren, Michael Ferrara, Nicholas Martinez, Ari Martinez, Julian Martinez and Gabe Bolton; his parents, Pascual and Maria Martinez, Jr. of Sweetwater; one brother, Pat Martinez and wife Jan of Pottsboro, TX; four sisters, Lillie Warner and partner Lenny Buff and Sabrina Henington and husband Stephen, all of Sweetwater, Liza Freshour and husband Jerry of Abilene and Dinah Carrell and husband Don of Big Spring; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his niece, Heather Denise Warner; and one nephew, Zachary Cole Ballenger.
