A total of 17 Roscoe athletes have earned recognition on the All-District 7-A, Division II football team, with two of them earning top honors and six others making the first team.
Senior Caden Smith was chosen as the districtâ€™s overall MVP after accounting for over 2,000 yards during the regular season as the Plow-boysâ€™ starting quarterback and also leading the team in tackles on defense.
Smith rushed for a team-high 1,305 yards and 18 touchdowns, and also threw for 851 yards and five TDs while on defense, he had 109 tackles and recovered five fumbles from his linebacking position.
Sophomore linebacker Landon Jones shared the defensive newcomer of the year honor with Hamlinâ€™s River Hall and Robyâ€™s Jose Frausto. Jones recorded the second-most tackles (67) on the team this season.
Roscoe had four players named to the first team on offense: Anthony Castor at outside receiver, Collin Smith at inside receiver and Michael Massey and Juan Solis on the offensive line.
Massey and Solis were also named to the first team on defense at tackle and end, respectively, while Edgar Gallegos was chosen at linebacker and Austin Carrasco also made the first team as a utility player.
Gallegos at running back, Carrasco at receiver and defensive back, Corey Hatcher at offensive line and defensive tackle and Matthew Cuellar at defensive tackle were all named to the second team.
Eleven Roscoe players received all-district honorable mention, including two at more than one position.
Chosen on offense were Cuellar and Cody Graham at tight end, Gabriel Perez and Carrasco at outside receiver, Martin Solis and Devon Freeman on the offensive line. Freeman was also chosen at defensive end and Solis, Eric Padilla and Jones at linebacker, while Adan Aguayo, Collin Smith and Damian Loza received all-district honorable mention as defensive backs.
