Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas announced that 39 Roscoe Collegiate High School students earned a National Career Readiness Certificate in May. Upperclassmen took three sections of the national assessment to measure their skills in the foundational areas of Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics and Locating Information. Based on their results, students were awarded a certificate in one of four levels: bronze, silver, gold or platinum. This certificate serves as a common language between employers, job seekers, educators and economic developers. It is also accepted nationwide and is good for five years. Funding for the assessments is provided through a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission. Employers throughout the 19-county region are also being asked to sign a letter of commitment signifying their willingness to recognize and promote the certificate during their hiring processes.
Assessments can be conducted at the Workforce Solutions offices or coordinated through a school/organization. The employer letter of commitment can be found on the Workforce Solutions website. Please visit www.workforcesystem.org/NCRC for more information about testing and employer support.
