The Roscoe girls basketball team waited until the final game of the regular season to clinch a playoff spot out of District 13-A, Division II Tuesday. The Plowgirls punched their ticket with a 50-16 win over Loraine to finish second in district with a 7-3 record and join first-place Highland and third-place Westbrook as the three postseason representatives. Faith Boren paced Roscoeâ€™s win with 21 points.
The Highland boys picked up a big win as well, defeating Hermleigh in their head-head matchup 37-31 to take over undisputed second place at 6-2 while drop-ping Hermleigh to 5-3. Each team has two games left and they will both go to the playoffs later this month along with Ira (8-0), which easily won its game against Westbrook on Tuesday. Highland and Hermleigh have split their two games this season in district play.
In Tuesdayâ€™s game, Ron Covington scored 18 points to pace Highlandâ€™s win. The Hornets held leads of 13-8, 22-13 and 27-19 at the breaks. The Highland girlsâ€™ results vs. Hermleigh were not available at press time.
Roscoeâ€™s boys also won as they beat Loraine 60-44 while improving their mark to 2-6, the same as Loraine with two games left to play.
Roscoe got double-figure scoring from Cutter Davila, who scored 20 points, and Jesus Leanos, who had 17. The Plowboys are 5-15 overall.
Roscoe got off to a quick start as the Plowboys were ahead 18-10 after one quarter. However, Loraine fought back to tie it at 29 at halftime. But Roscoe regained con-trol, leading 44-38 after three quarters.
