ROBERT LEE — It does-n’t get much more exciting than the way Roscoe’s girls basketball team began its playoff run on Wednesday.
Facing Paint Rock in a bi-district showdown, the Plowgirls — who trailed for most of the game — were tied at 31 when Eva Aguayo rolled in a game-winning jumper just before the buz-zer sounded for a thrilling 33-31 victory.
The Plowgirls now make the trip to Clyde for an area playoff vs. Zephyr on Friday at 7:30 p.m. It will be the second game of a playoff doubleheader in Clyde that also involves Highland, which will face Santa Anna at 6 p.m.
Down 9-7 after one quart-er, 17-13 at halftime and 25-24 after three periods, Roscoe pulled it out by out-scoring Paint Rock 9-7 in the fourth quarter.
The Plowgirls were led by Sam Ortega, who had nine points, while Aguayo finished with eight. Also scor-ing for Roscoe were Shelby Brown and Sunshine Tala-mantez with seven points and Selena Perez with two.
Meanwhile, the Roscoe boys — who trail Highland by a half-game for second place in 13-1A — will learn their playoff fate following today’s regular-season-end-ing game between Highland and first-place Ira. If the Plowboys and Hornets wind up in a tie for second place, a coin flip will determine playoff seeding.
Highland has not played since last Friday’s warmup vs. Class 2A power Cisco, which won 43-25. It was only the third loss of the season for the Lady Hornets, who are 24-3 overall.
Highland, a state quarterfinalist in 2013, won the District 13-1A championship with an 8-0 mark.
