Roscoe, Highland girls claim Ws in district-opening basketball action

Highland and Roscoe got girls district play off to a successful start by winning 13-A, Division II basketball games on Friday.
Roscoe won 46-22 over Hermleigh in its contest, while Highland opened de-fense of its 13-A, Division II title by beating Westbrook 79-34.
Shelby Brown scored 19 points to pace Roscoe. Eva Aguayo had 13, Sunshine Saddler six, Cha Cha Chavez four and Ashton Payne and Whitney Williams two for the Plowgirls (9-9 overall).
Highland’s easy win was led by Sierra Allen with 23 points. Hannah Allen added 12 points, Madison Moseley 11, Schyler Kimbrell 10, Kelsi Johns and Morgan Monroe six, Sydny Helbert and Beth Richburg four and Kaylee Martin three for the Lady Hornets, who improved to 15-2 overall. The 79 points were the most this year for Highland, which led 22-9, 45-11 and 63-20 at the breaks. Highland had lost two of four games after an 11-0 start, but the Lady Hornets — who are ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, Division II by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches — have won their last two games by an average of 35 points.
