HIGHLAND â€” Tuesdayâ€™s first of two District 13-A, Division II basketball show-downs between Highland and Roscoe wound up as a split decision.
The night began with the state-ranked Highland girls getting a dominant 70-22 win over Roscoe in a match-up between the districtâ€™s top two teams. Highland is 4-0 (18-2 overall) after the win, while Roscoe fell to 3-1.
But the boys game went to Roscoe, which rallied in the fourth quarter for a 39-33 win over Highland.
Roscoe overcame a five-point deficit with a 17-6 fin-ish over the last eight min-utes of play, leaving both teams 1-1 in district play.
Highland led 12-9, 20-17 at 27-22 at the breaks until the Plowboysâ€™ late rally. Jesus Leanos had 17 points to pace Roscoe (2-12 over-all), while Highland (8-6) got a game-high 21 points from Ethan Wilson.
Highland and Roscoe are now in a four-way tie for second place behind Ira, the leader at 2-0.
Highlandâ€™s girls, mean-while, dominated Roscoe from the start, leading 21-5 after the opening period. The No. 2-ranked Lady Hornets were ahead 37-10 at halftime, and enjoyed a 58-12 advantage after three periods while getting four players into double figures against Roscoe.
Sydny Helbert paced Highland with 20 points. Madison Moseley had 13, Sierra Allen 12 and Hannah Allen 10.
Roscoe was paced by Danielle Dean with five points. The Plowgirls, who are still in second place, host Highland on Jan. 31.
