Roscoe, Highland teams at opposite ends of DH sweep

Roscoe’s teams had their first district doubleheader of the high school basket-ball season Tuesday, but Haskell came away with victories in both games.
Haskell won the girls game 37-25, then ended the night with a 63-29 victory in the boys contest.
Lynnsi Moses led Ros-coe’s girls (0-2) with a team-high 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Jacinda Morales had seven points and four steals, while Sara Kingston scored four points and Torrey Willman had three.
Jesus Leanos scored 15 points for the boys (0-1). Cutter Davilla scored six points, Matthew Cuellar three, Keeston Ford and John Hermosillo two and Brant Burnett one.
Highland swept its district doubleheader against Westbrook, the boys (2-2) winning their game 54-37 while the Highland girls (5-1) won 45-40 to remain within a half-game of first-place Roby (5-0). Sierra Allen led the Lady Hornets, ranked No. 18 in Class 1A, Division II, with 27 points. Also scoring for Highland were Kara Hughey with 10 points, Beth Richburg with five, Megan Thompson with two and Madison Moseley with one.
Ron Covington had 24 points for the boys in their game while Kevin Box had eight, Laramie Thompson and Ethan Wilson five, Zack Cornett and Brandon Stevens four and Shelby Howard and Kaden Nach-linger two apiece against Westbrook. The Hornets led 9-4 at the end of one quarter, 26-17 at halftime and 38-27 after three periods and finished with their highest one-game scoring total of the season.
Meanwhile, the Highland girls’ game was close all the way. The Lady Hornets held leads of 13-11, 21-17 and 36-32 at the breaks as they won their fourth straight district game.
No results for Blackwell’s games against Water Valley on Tuesday were available at press time Tuesday.
On Friday, Roscoe hosts Rotan while both Highland teams will have this weekend off before they resume District 11-A, Division II play by hosting Hermleigh next Tuesday.
Blackwell’s teams are at home Friday to take on Sterling City as the Lady Hornets and Hornets begin a two-game homestand.
