The Roscoe junior varsity football team rallied from a 12-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to knock off Wylie’s sophomore team, 24-20, in its season finale on Thursday.
The come-from-behind win allowed Roscoe’s JV to finish 5-4 overall.
The Plowboys’ comeback in the fourth quarter began with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Isaiah Gonzales to Juan Solis, plus a two-point run by Johnathon Cuellar that cut Wylie’s lead to 20-16.
Cuellar then scored what proved to be the winning points for Roscoe on a 5-yard TD run later in the period, and added a second 2-point run after the score.
Gonzales also threw a 17-yard scoring pass to
Gage White in the first per-iod and Cuellar had his first 2-point conversion run, giving the Plowboys an early 8-0 lead.
But Wylie came back to score the next three touch-downs, twice off Roscoe miscues, to open a 20-8 lead after three quarters. The first Wylie score came on a 43-yard fumble return and the third touchdown came on a 70-yard return off a fumble recovery. Wylie also scored on a 37-yard touchdown pass to go ahead 14-8 at intermission.
Providing defensive high-lights for Roscoe were Ray Bohall with a fumble recov-ery; and Gonzales, who had a last-minute interception to preserve the victory.
“Our guys did a great job of hanging tough and figh-ting back amidst adversity,” said JV coach Jordan Mor-ales. “It was a fitting ending to the season. Our guys battled and overcame obstacles all year long.”
