Roy Howard Tucker, age 76, of Fort Stockton, passed away Dec. 22, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer. Howard was born Aug. 23, 1937, in Blackwell to W.O. and Mary Blair Tucker. He married Leona Mae Backhaus on Jan. 9, 1958, in Roscoe. Howard worked as a construction inspector for the Texas Highway Department in Sweetwater, Stanton and Fort Stockton, where he retired after 36 years of employment. He was an Elder of Faith Lutheran Church in Fort Stockton for 45 years. He also served for many years on the Board of El Buen Vecino, the Fort Stockton Christian Thrift Store.
Howard is survived by Leona, his wife of 55 years; his children, Melinda and husband Maelo Olivas, Rhonda and husband George Luera, all of Fort Stockton; his son, Rodney and wife Staci Tucker of San Angelo; his sister, Helen Woods of Sweetwater; his grandchildren, Malia Granado of Fort Stockton, Justin Brians of Monahans, Jaren Brians of Odessa and Blair Tucker of San Angelo; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by three brothers, E.J., Earl and Clarence Tucker.
Visitation will take place at Heritage Funeral Home in downtown Fort Stockton on Thursday, Dec. 26, from 12-2 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Michael Fickenscher of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell.
