November is American Diabetes Month, and to acknowledge this Alice Velez from the Diabetic Outreach Program at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the health department on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 8 a.m. until noon to check blood glucose and answer any questions you may have regarding diabetes. Pamphlets and materials will be available.
The health department will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11 to observe Veteranâ€™s Day and on Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25 for the Thanksgiving holidays. Immunization clinic is cancelled for Wednesday, Nov. 23. Regular hours for immunizations will resume on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Immunization clinic is held every Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 1p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and the second Wednesday of each month until 6 p.m.Â We are administering the flu vaccine during regular immunization clinic. The cost is $20 for adults. Medicare Part B accepted. The cost is $6 for children (6 months to 18 years). Medicaid and CHIPS accepted for children only.
Family Planning services are available through several funding sources. Services include pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy testing, and methods of birth control, and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. For an appointment call 235-2869.
