Local medical center honors work of nursing team and observes national celebration of hospitals
As many rural healthcare facilities struggle, residents of Nolan County have much to be thankful for as Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) continues to thrive amidst a challenging economy and an ever-changing healthcare landscape. The local medical community will join the nation in celebrating National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week.
“Miracles occur every day at our hospital,” said Donna Boatright, administrator at RPMH. “A wealth of medical services are available right here in Sweetwater and it is important that we remind members of our community that one of the best hospitals in a rural Texas is available right around the corner.”
Growth still visible around hospital -- Over the past two years, the hospital has undergone many changes. Last year, renovations were completed on the medical/surgical wing and construction is slated to be completed in the next few months on a new medical office building that will provide the hospital with additional much-needed space for physician offices.
According to Boatright, the new facility will be used for existing doctors and provide expanded space for additional doctors in the future.
“As our community continues to grow, we naturally need to be able to accommodate the needs of local residents,” Boatright explained. “The new building will add much needed room for us to welcome new doctors while our existing facility will be renovated with essential new features.”
The recent expansion and renovations, along with upgrades in equipment and notable team achievements are right on the heels of an appropriate week to celebrate milestones for the hospital.
National Hospital Week is a nationwide campaign where thousands of hospitals from across the country celebrate the healthcare professionals and their services that keep communities healthy. What began in 1921 as the brainchild of a magazine editor who wanted to educate the public about the work of hospitals, National Hospital Week has become one of the nation’s largest healthcare celebrations.
The RPMH nursing team key to driving patient satisfaction -- When one enters the hospital for medical care, their visit would not be complete without care from a member of the nursing team. The nurses at RPMH have consistently performed above average across the state, as they provide professional, compassionate service.
The nurses at RPMH ensure the needs of patients are met and are one of the many important assets of the hospital.
“We strive for superior patient satisfaction, and I can say our nursing team has been critical in helping RPMH achieve great ratings in post-visit surveys,” said Boatright.
Celebrated at the same time each year, National Nurses Week is rooted in the work of the profession’s most notable icon, Florence Nightingale. Often referred to as the “lady with the lamp,” Nightingale received her reputation during the Crimean War when she led a group of 38 nurses through the battleground, providing much needed services to the badly wounded British troops. As night fell, she continued her mission lighting the way with her famous lamp.
In 1974, President Nixon declared May 6 through May 12 National Nurses Week. It begins on May 6 of each year, the anniversary of Nightingale’s arrival in Crimea and ends on her birthday, May 12.
Healthy outlook -- RPMH remains committed to remaining agile and continuing their mission of providing the best in medical care for the communities in Nolan County. As the community expands, so will the hospital.
“Rolling Plains Memorial will continue to be the center of a healthy community,” Boatright added. “With National Hospital and Nurses Week, we will not only praise our team and facility, but continue to look ahead to discover how we can keep those in our community healthy.”
