RPMH offers free cholesterol screening

The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD, shown), located at 301 E. 12th, will host the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Lab on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. to offer free cholesterol screenings as part of National Cholesterol Education Month.

September is National Cholesterol Education Month and to acknowledge this occasion Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Lab will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E. 12th, on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. to offer free cholesterol screening.
The health department will not have immunization clinic on Wednesday, Sept. 12. The immunization clinic is held usually every Wednesday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. and the second Wednesday of each month until 6 p.m. Parents are asked to bring their child’s immunization record to the clinic. Children with private health insurance need to be vaccinated by their physician unless private insurance does not pay for vaccines then the child can be vaccinated at the health department. There is a $6 administration fee per a child; Medicaid and CHIPS are accepted.
The health department will be administering flu vaccine on Thursday, Sept. 13, and Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays, thereafter. The cost is $20 for all adults; Medicare Part B is accepted. The cost is $6 for children (six months to 18 years) with no insurance. Medicaid and CHIPS are accepted. If children have private insurance, the health department has to refer them to their physician unless insurance does not pay for vaccine. The health department can vaccine children for $20 using their private stock vaccine and not state vaccine.
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department will be at the Roscoe Community Center on Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 1:30-4 p.m. to administer the flu vaccine, and at Blackwell school on Thursday, Oct. 4 from 9-11 a.m.
Family Planning services are available through several funding sources. Services include pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy testing, methods of birth control, and screening and testing for sexually transmitted diseases. For an appointment call 235-2869.
