Ruby Whitman Davis, age 97, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away on Aug. 28, 2013 at Lakeview Christian Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, at First United Methodist Church, 207 West Hagerman Street in Carlsbad with Rev. James Baker officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Shady Pine Masonic Cemetery in Hagerman, NM. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday at West Funeral Home in Carlsbad. Ruby Mae Baker was born on Nov. 29, 1915 in Hamilton, Texas to James W. and Georgia (Berry) Baker. She married Paul Whitman on June 22, 1934. They made their home in Dexter, NM. Paul passed away in January 1967. She married Kenneth M. Davis, Sr. of Carlsbad, NM on July 7, 1979. Ken passed away Aug. 24, 1995.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step mother, Louisa Jane Baker; three brothers, Ira Baker, Curtis Baker and Paskel (Jack) Baker; three sisters, Ora Howard MucCullough, Elizabeth Bowen Hughlett and Verda Boggs; and two step children, Kenneth Davis, Jr. and Vaden (Butch) Davis.
She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Hammack and Ruth Coston of Silver City, NM; one brother, Rev. James Baker and wife Wanda of Sweetwater; two step sons, Roger Davis and wife Gloria of Carlsbad, NM and Noel Davis and wife Mary Ann of Phoenix, AZ; step daughter-in-law, Barbara (Bobbie) Davis of Chandler, AZ and numerous nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in Ruby’s memory to Lakeview Christian Homes or Lakeview Christian Homes Hospice, 1905 West Pierce Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220 or a charity of your choice.
