S’water track teams start year at Snyder

Sweetwater’s track teams began their 2012 season last Friday at a meet in Snyder.

Nick Nemir got the boys’ only win in the 300 hurdles (40.61), and he also placed second in the 100 dash with a time of 11.29. His brother, Sam Nemir, placed third in the 200 dash (23.88), mis-sing second by .02 seconds. Chase Saunders was third in the shot put (37-3) and sixth in the discus (91-4). Placing fourth were Kyle Lambert in the shot (36-8) and the 400 relay (45.25). Sweetwater had 44 points as a team to place fifth.
Sweetwater’s girls also ran at Snyder and scored 40 points to place fifth.
Individually, Alicia Finn was second in the discus (97-1) and third in the shot put (32-10); Destiny Osteen placed second in the shot put (33-1); Claire Williams was third in the discus (92-9); Kendra Crosson placed third in the 200 dash (26.98); Kelsi Crosson was sixth in the 300 hurdles (54.78) and fifth in the triple jump (30-9); Madison Howard was sixth in the 1600 (6:41.74); and Kath-leen Campbell was fifth in the high jump (4-6).
Sweetwater also had sev-eral junior varsity boys and girls athletes who competed at the season-opening meet in Snyder.
Sweetwater’s boys will go to Big Spring for their next competition in a one-day meet Friday, while the Sweetwater girls will be competing at the West Texas Relays in Odessa on both Friday and Saturday.
