Sarona “Tootsie” Roberds

Sarona “Tootsie” Roberds, age 83 of Dallas, TX, passed away June 21, 2011. She was born May 5, 1928, in Waxahachie, TX, to G.W. Jr. and Jewel (Hazard) Whitaker. Tootsie grew up in Sweetwater, TX, where her family owned the local bakery. She spent her summers in Red Oak, TX, with her cousins, aunts and uncles.  Tootsie graduated from SMU in 1948 and was employed with the Dallas ISD. She enjoyed traveling, reading and visiting beautiful gardens. Tootsie was a member of Casa View Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Becky Kelly and husband John of Bella Vista, AR, Mike Roberds of Rowlett, TX and Laura Chapman and husband Ron of Rockwall, TX; grandchildren, Chris “Dave” Kelly of Godley, TX and Shannon Roberds-Coffey and husband Jason of Mesquite, TX; and great-grandson, Hudson Michael Coffey of Mesquite, TX. 
Tootsie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, G.W. “Sonny” Whitaker; and sister, Wanda Jean Whitaker.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel with Pastor Ken Ashlock officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.
