PECOS â€” Five boys and two girls will advance to the Region I-3A track meet after top-four finishes on Thursday at the 3-3A/4-3A area meet for Sweetwater.
The boys qualified in six events at the area meet, including a pair of relays.
Pacing the Mustangsâ€™ effort was Johnathan Browning, who was a winner in the long jump (20-11 1/2) while also qualifying for regional competition in three other events.
Browning was fourth in the 100 dash (11.46) and ran on both of Sweetwaterâ€™s qualifying relay quartets that each placed second. The 400 and 800 relays were timed in 43.58 and 1:31.89, respectively. Deâ€™andre Gat-son, Isaiah McGee and Mar-quees Jenkins also ran on the relays. Wylie won with times of 42.99 and 1:30.97, respectively.
In the long jump, Brow-ning edged out McGee. who also qualified with a second-place leap of 20-11.
The other regional boys qualifiers on Thursday for Sweetwater were Gatson, third in the triple jump (41-3 1/2); and Deshaun Williams, who high jumped 5-10 to also place third.
The Region I-3A meet will be April 25-26 at Texas Tech University. The two girls regional qualifiers for Sweetwater will be Ziggy Collins, who placed second in the discus (109-2); and Cierra Knox, who placed fourth in the shot (34-1).
Also for the boys, McGee was fifth in the 200 (22.75) and Mark Lawrence was fifth in the 800 (2:05.58), while for the girls, Micken-zie Brownlow was fifth in the 400 dash (1:05).
