A new local organization is planning their program and preparing for their first big fundraiser.
In late 2011, the Auxiliary to the Sweetwater Fire Fighters Association (SFFA) was organized. The group is made up of the wives of firefighters who are currently members of the Sweetwater Professional Fire Fighters Association, local 2943.
"Our purpose is to cooperate with and contribute to the accomplishments of the Sweetwater Professional Fire Fighters Association," said program organizers.
"We want to be of service to our community and uphold the dignity and respect of the Sweetwater Professional Fire Fighters Association."
The group hopes to meet these goals--through the assistance of the community and local businesses--by raising money to help people who have lost their home and belongings due to fire by helping to replenish some of the items lost. However, the group also hopes to assist people outside of the city.
The Auxiliary SFFA is a member of the Auxiliary to the International Association of Fire Fighters, as well as the Auxiliary to the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters. Annual donations will be sent to both organizations to use for scholarships and to help send burn victims to a burn camp.
A charter meeting for the Auxiliary SFFA is set for March 31, but already the group is planning to host their 1st Annual Bunco Tournament. It will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the 4th and Elm Church of Christ Warehouse.
The entry fee is $20 per person with 12 ladies to a team. Participants must be over 18 years of age. If you do not have a team, your name will be placed on a list to form a team.
Entries are limited to 25 teams, and the deadline to enter is on Monday, April 2, 2012. Entry forms can be picked up from group members Kelly Kiser (325-338-2492, firstname.lastname@example.org) or Cassy Peacock (325-242-1025, email@example.com).
Forms can also be picked up via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or through their Facebook page. (www.facebook.com/AuxiliarySFFA).
Currently, the Auxiliary SFFA is seeking donations for prizes and table sponsors ($75/table). Along with prizes, refreshments will be provided and the group's t-shirts will be available for sale at the fundraiser (pre-orders for shirts are recommended to guarantee sizes and are now being taken).
All the funds raised from the event will go toward county victims who have been affected and lost their possessions by house fires.
