Funeral services for Sherman Carl Wade, 77, of Sweetwater will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Hopewell Cemetery near Liberty Hill, TX under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Wade died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
He was born April 16, 1936, in Kinston, North Carolina. He married Etta L. Johns on Aug. 2, 1958, in San Saba. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Sherman worked as a meat inspector for the State of Texas 24 years before retiring. He then worked for Ridley Packing 12 more years. He lived in Sweetwater since 1959. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Etta Wade of Sweetwater; two sons, Wendell Ray Wade and wife Mendy Rae of Maryneal and Douglas Wayne Wade and wife Debbie of Granbury; three sisters, Shirley Carroll Thompson of Cove City, NC, Frances Marie Clayborn of Kinston, NC and Barbara Ann Taylor of Snow Hill, NC; one brother, Charles Freeman Wade of Kinston, NC; four grandchildren; one step granddaughter; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hilda Grace Lewis; four brothers, Henry, Bobby, Rufus and Douglas Wade.
Pallbearers will be Billy Gotcher, Kenny Johns, Rocky Johns, Walter Gene Johns Jimmy Johns and Bobby Johns.
Honorary pallbearers will be his Whataburger coffee drinking friends.
