Shooting in Sweetwater

At around approximately 12:50 p.m. on Friday afternoon, the Sweetwater Police Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls regarding shots fired at the 700 block of Bluff Street, according to Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers located one individual who was suffering from a gunshot wound in the upper leg area, near the groin. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Merced Flores.
The alleged suspect — identified as Eduardo Echegaray — had fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival. It was reported that he fled in a silver Volkswagen sedan.
The victim was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital via ambulance and was subsequently care flighted to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene for further treatment, according to Chief Frieda.
