Dylon Adames

A Sweetwater High alumnus is heading to his first competition in bodybuilding.
Dylon Adames, a 2012 graduate of Sweetwater High School and third-year student at Texas Tech University, will compete at the NPC (National Physique Committee) Heart of Texas at the Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Adames had always been lifting weights as part of football training, but when the opportunity to play fell through, he began committing himself to fully pursuing bodybuilding. Since February, he was been working toward the competition.
In a phone interview, Adames shared that a daily workout routine begins with 30 minutes of cardio, followed by two hours of lifting weights. Each day is devoted to a different muscle, and his workouts always conclude with another 30 minutes of cardio.
While the September competition will be his first, Adames hopes to make competing and bodybuilding a long-term commitment, looking at participating anywhere from the next two to 10 years.
And in order to cover travel expenses and entry fees, Adames and his mother, Stephanie Adames of Sweetwater, have planned a fundraiser which will run through Saturday, Aug. 30. A $100 Wal-Mart gift card will be awarded, and tickets can be purchased from Stephanie by calling 725-7514 or via email at sgarcia325@yahoo.com.
