LUBBOCK — Sweetwater High School’s track season officially ended Saturday as none of its athletes at the Region I-3A meet at Texas Tech University advanced to state competition.
Competing individually for the Sweetwater boys was Johnathan Browning, who placed 13th in the long jump (19-1 1/2); and De’andre Gatson, who was 13th in the triple jump (40-4). Gatson and Browning also ran on the 400- and 800-meter relays, neither of which made it to Saturday’s finals.
Marquees Jenkins and Jay Lomas also ran on the 400 relay, which ran a pre-liminary time of 44.45 sec-onds. Jenkins and Michael Green joined Browning and Gatson on the 800 relay, which was timed in 1:34.31 in Friday’s prelims.
Sweetwater also had two girls who competed at this year’s Region 1-3A meet. Ziggy Collins was 14th in the discus (95-8), while Cierra Knox placed 15th in the shot put (32-6 3/4).
