SHS fall athletes get banquet recognition

Sweetwater High School athletes in the fall sports of cross country, volleyball and football, as well as the SHS cheerleaders, were recognized Thursday at a banquet held at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex.
Coaches presented certificates to their athletes and those with academic and postseason awards were honored. In cross country, Jonathan Gallegos (boys) and Nevaeh Sarabia (girls) were recognized as the most outstanding runners.
Jaelynn Page was presented with the football sweetheart honor by the SHS senior football players.
The SHS football coaches also presented some special awards. Zach Winslett was given the offensive lineman award by coaches Blake Spears and Cody Morrison; Logan King was given the defensive lineman award by coaches Chad Copeland and David York; Chris Thompson was given the offensive skill player award by coach Bryan Loera; Ky Hoover was given the defensive skill player award by coaches Ray Carroll and Jarrod Gee; Kobe Clark was given the offensive MVP award by coaches Ben McGehee and Blake Spears; Kiante McCoy was given the defensive MVP award by coaches Dexter Knox and Kirk Byrd; Daniel Avila was given the Fighting Heart award by McGehee; and Kurt Wetsel was given the Mustang Coach’s Award, also by McGehee.
