Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s girls golf team shot a final round 382 Monday at Sny-derâ€™s Western Texas College for a third-place finish at the 54-hole, three-leg District 4-3A golf tournament.
Despite missing a regional berth, Sweetwater beat out five of the districtâ€™s eight competing golf teams with a three-round 1,104 total. The two teams who are advancing to regionals are Snyder (1,001) and Monahans (1,012). Sweetwaterâ€™s No. 2 team shot 443-1,264 for a seventh-place finish.
The regional tournament will be played April 16-17 at Lubbock.
Corynn Martin of Sweet-water finished in 10th place among district medalists as she shot 94-88-91-273 to earn all-district honors and pace the No. 1 teamâ€™s effort.
Also on Sweetwaterâ€™s team were Alexis Castillo, who shot 94-84-97-275; Kensi Chowning, who shot 88-88-103-279; Alaina Andrews, who shot 97-89-95-281; and Payton Moore (109-99-99-307). On the No. 2 team were Gabby Reyes (96-101-102-299); Alyssa Soles (102-102-104-308); Christa Martin (104-96-115-315); Brooke Hefner (110-110-122-342); and Mallory Carney (119-110-122-351). Sweetwaterâ€™s medalists were Holly Johnson (120-108-125-353); Lizzie Gray (NS-105-114); Serena Flores (144-NS-145); and Rhylee Meneses (129-113-NS).
In the medalist race, Big Springâ€™s Kelsie Guinn shot 81-74-76-231 to win top honors and earn a regional berth, beating Snyderâ€™s Cassidy Rawls by five shots. The other regional medalist will be Ryan Pate of Green-wood, who was third with a 237 total and had the second best score of a player not on a qualifying team.
