The Sweetwater High School girls golf team shot a two-day total of 776 at the Sweetwater Classic for a third-place finish this past weekend.
Only Abilene High (707) and Abi-lene Cooper (719) finished ahead of Sweetwater, which was in fourth place after an opening 385 on Friday but moved up one position on Saturday after a finishing 391. Jim Ned (793) and Wylie (801) completed the top five, while Sweetwaterâ€™s No. 2 team shot 866 to place eighth and the No. 3 team shot 951 to place 12th among the 14 teams in the field.
Sweetwaterâ€™s Elise Lawrence shot 88-90-178 to place fourth among medalists. Abilene Highâ€™s MacKenzie Curnett (170) won the title, followed by Abilene Highâ€™s Lauren Langford and Cooperâ€™s Ilyana Benavidez, who shot 177s to edge Lawrence. Langford was declared the runnerup after winning a playoff. Only two shots separ-ated the next four golfers behind Curnett. Completing Sweetwaterâ€™s No. 1 team were Alex Gomez (93-98-191), Amy Witt (96-105-201), Rachel Hunt (111-98-209) and Haylee Stew-art (108-105-213).
Molly Fincher (104-108-212) and Sierra Hernandez (108-104-212) led the No. 2 team, which also included Alexis Castillo (108-115-223), Laney Wallace (121-104-225) and Tatum Maxwell (115-125-240).
The No. 3 team was led by Caroline Lawrence (114-112-226) and also had Rachel Gray (113-123-236), Corynn Martin (120-117-237), Bailey Bernal (127-125-252) and Kala Wofford (132-127-259).
Maddie Howard (131-118-249), Megan Carney (111) and Angelica Collier (131) played as medalists.
