Sweetwater High School boys golf entered district play in Brownwood on Monday

The Sweetwater High School boys golf team went to Brownwood for the first leg of the District 5-3A tournament on Monday and shot a 324 for third place after the opening round.
With two 18-hole legs to play in the 54-hole event, Sweetwater trails only Big Spring, which has the lead with a 308 total, and Wylie, which shot 318. Snyder is fourth (331), followed by Snyder’s No. 2 team (346) and Wylie No. 2 (361).
Among district medalists, Sweetwater’s Ryan Mercer is in second place after shooting a 73. He currently trails Big Spring’s Blake Brorman (68) by five shots. Sweetwater’s Dylan Torres shot 82 and is ninth among medalists while Alex Castillo shot 84, Mason Andrews 85 and Guy Bond 89.
Sweetwater’s No. 2 team, meanwhile, shot 372 and is in eighth place after its first round at Brownwood. Team members are Jonah Lawrence (87), Yates Cypert (91), Jace Bentle (95), Joey Adames (99) and Rance Stone (103). The tournament resumes at Big Spring on April 4 and wraps up at Sweetwater on April 11 with the final 18 holes played at Sweetwater Country Club.
