District 5-3A play will be in full swing starting today both of Sweetwater High School’s varsity basketball teams host Abilene Wylie.
Sweetwater’s girls, 0-1 after losing to Snyder in their district opener Tuesday, tip off at 6 p.m. while the boys begin district at 7:30 p.m.
As usual, Wylie’s teams will present a big challenge for Sweetwater. Both teams are state ranked — the girls come in with a No. 1 ranking in Class 3A and the boys are ranked No. 22. And it won’t get much easier after today, especially for the girls, whose district also includes No. 7 Brownwood (18-6) and Big Spring (16-6). Wylie’s boys and girls won district last year, and the Wylie girls (22-4) are the defending Class 3A state champions. Wylie is off to a 2-0 start this year while Wylie’s boys, like Sweetwater, are playing their 5-3A opener.
The Wylie girls rallied from a 15-point deficit to top Brownwood, 48-41, on Tuesday while Sweetwater lost to Snyder 56-47.
Also today, both Roscoe teams host Rotan in Dis-trict 9-A, Division I and Blackwell’s teams host Ster-ling City in District 12-A, Division II. Meanwhile, in District 11-A, Division II, both Highland teams have the night off.
