Sweetwater High School hosted its Mustang Power Classic recently, with 22 teams and over 260 athletes competing in the meet held at the SHS gym.
The Sweetwater boys were ninth out of 19 teams in their division with 11 points and Sweetwaterâ€™s girls were third out of 18 teams in their division with 25 points. The top qualifying individual lifters will go to regional meets in March.
For the boys, Jay Lomas was second in the 132-pound class; Austin Marlett was third in the 181-pound class; Colter Reed was fourth in the 123-pound class; and Dylan Jimenez was fourth in the 198-pound class.
Dana Hohn (165-pound class) and Eliza Delgado (220-plus class) were individual girls winners. Kristi Ward was second in the 148-pound class; Naomi Gonzales was third in the 220-pound class; Ziggy Col-lins was fourth in the 181-pound class; and Valerie Zavaleta was fifth in the 123-pound class.
At the Abilene Cooper meet held on Jan. 28, the Sweetwater girls had 28 points to place second while the Sweetwater boys came in sixth with 19 points.
Top individuals for the Sweetwater girls were Del-gado, who won the 220-plus class; Zavaleta, who was second in the 132-pound class; Ward, who was second in the 148-pound class; Naomi Gonzales, who was second in the 220-pound class; Shana Witse, who was third in the 220-pound class; Hohn, who was fourth in the 165-pound class; and Rebecca Gonzales, who was fifth in the 165-pound class.
The top boys individual was Lomas, who won the 132-pound class. Also, Zach Garcia was second in the 198-pound class; Marlett was third in the 181-pound class; Andrew Davis was third in the 275-pound class; and Cory Mendez was fifth in the 242-pound class.
