SHS tennis: district results

Sweetwater High School’s tennis players competed at their District 5-3A tourna-ment in Big Spring this past Thursday and Friday, but none will advance to the regional tournament at Lubbock. Results follow:
BOYS SINGLES
Stephen Shipp lost to Logan Tabor of Snyder 4-6, 3-6.
BOYS DOUBLES
Michael Foust-Austin Coth-erman beat Snyder 6-3, 6-0; lost to Brownwood 4-6, 3-6 in the quarterfinals; Javier Solano-Isaiah Hernandez lost to Velasques-Yruegas 2-6, 0-6 in the quarterfinals.
GIRLS SINGLES
Dugan Thompson lost to Reba Smith of Big Spring 4-6, 1-6 (Thompson had previously defeated Smith at Snyder tournament).
GIRLS DOUBLES
Heidi Taylor-Kristen Casto lost to Chhuor-Harlan of Sny-der 3-6, 2-6.
MIXED DOUBLES
Addisyn Cleckler-Brandon Ellison beat Thompson-Alon-zo of Brownwood 4-6, 6-3, 6-3; lost to Big Spring 2-6, 2-6 in the quarterfinals; Chris Hernandez-Jenny Ordway had a first round bye, then defeated Brownwood 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the quarterfinals, but lost to Ueckert-Patel of Wylie after a tiebreaker set by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 4-6. Hernandez-Ordway then won third place at district with 6-3, 6-4 victory over Big Spring team.
SHS coach Shella Arn-wine said she is certain that District 5-3A will compete well in Austin at the state tournament May 9-10. The top two at district advance to the regional tournament in Lubbock on April 20-21.
“I am proud of each and every one of my kids,” she said. “Each kid has been playing and preparing for this district tournament since (last) August.
“I could not have asked for a better group of kids that were willing to give so much of themselves on and off the court. I have really enjoyed coaching the Sweetwater tennis team.”
