SHS teams host Snyder in key 5-3A action today

They both began four-game homestands against district competition by losing to first-place squads from Brownwood earlier this week. As a result, the Sweetwater High School baseball and softball teams will have a little added pressure to win when they resume their homestands by hosting Snyder today. The SHS baseball team (0-2) needs to win its 7 p.m. contest to remain a viable District 5-3A contender, while Snyder (2-0) is tied with Brownwood for the early lead. The Lions host third-place Wylie (2-1) in today’s other district game. Sweetwater is coming off a 9-2 loss on Wednesday to Brownwood. The Mus-tangs fell to Wylie, 14-13, in their district opener. The SHS softball team (1-2) is in a little better shape despite losing 8-0 to Brownwood on Tuesday. A win over Snyder (2-1) at 5 p.m. puts the Lady Mustangs in no worse than a three-way tie for second place in District 5-3A with four games remaining. Brownwood, the cur-rent district leader at 3-0, entertains Wylie (1-2) to-day while Big Spring (1-3) faces a non-district foe.Due to their schedules, winning this week and next may be especially critical for SHS since the baseball and softball squads finish with multiple road games after their homestands wrap up against Big Spring and Wylie. The baseball team ends district with three road games, while the softball team plays its last two away from home.
